Dance in the New Year at First Night Santa Cruz

The community will welcome in the New Year at First Night Santa Cruz tonight. This year’s theme, Cirque de Santa Cruz, invites celebrators to walk under the balloon big top along Pacific Avenue and be entertained by street artists, clowns, parades, and musicians. Multiple stages provide a wide variety of entertainment ranging from opera to reggae, performances begin at 3 p.m.
Dance and performance shows continue the circus theme with Circus Reversus performing at Palookaville; Kids on Broadway playing at 418 Project; and Roberto the Magician amazing audiences at Veteran’s Hall Auditorium, to name a few.
There will be delightful children’s entertainment featuring the popular Banana Slug String Band performing at the Cinema; a sing along with Music Together at Calvary Church Parish Hall; and other upbeat performances.
The swingin’ est entertainment can be found at the Santa Cruz Civic with A Touch of Brass’s 19-piece big band sound and swing dance lessons starting the evening and Candela salsa band dancing down the final hours with part-goers before midnight.
The midnight finale has not been disclosed, but Marc Murai of First Night promises it will be a powerful event New Years revilers will not want to miss.
Buttons are still available at First Night booths on Pacific and Cooper, and Cathcart and Pacific. Prices are $12 for adults, $6 for youth and children 5 and under are free.
All downtown parking is free after noon today. Metro bus service is also available. Regular bus routes will run as well as extended services from Santa Cruz Metro Center. Bus transportation is free with a First Night button.
